Through-out the past 26 weeks I have felt such a mixture of emotions. Our bodies are AMAZING, incredible, magical, & I’m completely in awe that my baby is growing inside of my belly. LIKE… WHAT THE HECK… HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE! My body is changing so that it can carry my baby & that in itself is a miracle, but my stomach is HUGE & growing daily, my face has rounded out a bit, & I don’t feel the least bit cute unless I actually get ready. I constantly have to remind myself that I AM BEAUTIFUL… even 20, 30, 40 lbs heavier.
BUT LET’S BE HONEST
We still want to feel our best & I’ve realized that maternity clothes are where it’s at. Normal clothes, most of the time, just don’t fit the way they are supposed to. Pink Blush Maternity has MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE dress right now & I liked it so much I ordered it in three colors! That’s what you are supposed to do when you find something you love right??? HECK YES– order every color!!!!!! (I wasn’t sure what size to go with, but get the measuring tape out & trust their sizing guide– this dress fits like a dream!)
AND thank goodness accessories fit no matter how big you get… because I have way too many cute ones from Lux Clothing!!!
Who doesn’t love a good party???? But if you are in charge of throwing the party, then it can be a bit overwhelming!!! With these 5 steps you will be so proud of yourself when you see the whole thing come together. PROMISE! (p.s. we are selling the major pieces from the bridal shower below… see the details at the bottom of this post).
I do wish I had a giant party room, that had white brick walls & all the empty space I could ever need, & tall ceilings, & huge windows that cranked open.. buttttttt I don’t. My guess is you probably don’t either, but you can really throw an epic party just about anywhere!!!! Don’t let the fact that you may not have a dream space for a party, keep you from making it epic (especially if you have a photo backdrop)!
Step 1: PICK A THEME & stick to it
This can often take the longest, but don’t settle. Once you pick a theme, you will feel like you just want to check everything else off your list because you will be so excited!
Brainstorm theme colors first. For my sister’s bridal shower we wanted to stick to similar colors that she was going to be using for her wedding, but we also wanted to throw in a pop or orange to make it a little different. Once we decided on a pink, berry, & coral color pallet, we instantly thought BERRIES. What goes good with berries???? YESSSS, you read my mind…. waffles! We had our theme: AN EPIC BRIDAL SHOWER WITH A WAFFLE & BERRY BAR!
Once you have a theme, it will be easier to search for inspiration. Think about the details, but a lot of it will come as you go shopping or search online. We found the gold silverware at target & quickly took the silverware out of our online amazon shopping cart. We made the confetti on the tables & were inspired once we made the bigger confetti banner. We found the vases the day before at the 99 cent store & we ordered pink alphabet letters that spelled out “party” that we layered above the food table!
STEP 2: CREATE YOUR MENU
Write out what you want to serve. We wanted to do a bunch of finger food & we served it in a way that people could eat whenever they wanted. I think we all had firsts, seconds, & thirds… talk about carb overload (although the salad was super good)!!!! When we were planning out our menu, we also made a list of the plates, platters, bowls, etc. that we would need to put it in. Here is an example of what our menu looked like:
STEP 3: MAKE A LIST OF WHAT YOU NEED to do & delegate it
Make a list of things you need to:
Do in advance
Do the night before
Do the morning of
Delegate your list & if you have people asking to help, give them things that can be done before hand or that you don’t need until the party starts. Be super clear… if they are bringing strawberries make sure you ask them to wash & cut them beforehand (or it will end up being more work than if you would’ve done it yourself). If you are passing the task off to someone else, write their name next to the task & check in with them the week before.
STEP 4: CREATE A LEGIT PHOTO BACKDROP (& HASHTAG)
Let’s just say this is no easy task. Over the years we have created countless backdrops & let’s just say they get better & better & better. I would say now we are pro’s! It will cost money, & it will be time consuming, BUT trust me when I say it will be SO FREAKING worth it!
STEP 5: HAVE AN AWESOME PLAYLIST
Music, music, music… I can’t stress this enough!!!!!!!!!! MUSIC is so important! It will set the tone for your entire party. Have it playing before guests start to arrive… dance to it in the kitchen while you are setting up. This can make or break your party. Maybe it’s just me, but TRUST ME. You NEED a good playlist!

Things haven’t been working for me, so I decided I needed to make some changes. It’s crazy we get in these habits & ways of doing things, & just expect things to change without having to change something. I have had some MAJOR CREATIVE BLOCKS lately (& I blamed it on being pregnant & tired for a while), but I finally got to a point when I told myself I need to SNAP OUT OF IT. I know I’m not the only one who has gone through a creative block (or has felt BLAH)… & knowing that, I had to share FIVE simple things that are really helping me to find my inspiration from within again!
1. BE SPECIFIC ABOUT YOUR GOALS
Choose 3 goals, that are realistic for you, & do them this week. These goals should help you creatively. These are my top 3 this week:
Fast from social media for a week, & after my fast, no social media past 5pm. Why? Not only is social media where I waste most of my time, but it has been a huge source of what has been draining me creatively. It has also made me feel inadequate as I notice myself comparing myself to others more & more.
Do a circuit workout in the morning on Monday, Wednesday & Friday. Why? Because when I workout I feel better & more energized.
Carve out time to be creative with no purpose. Plan it into my day & give myself that time to mess around.
2. CARVE OUT TIME TO BE CREATIVE WITH NO END GOAL IN MIND
Set aside a couple hours to paint, WITH NO EXPECTATIONS to have a finished product when you are done. It’s part of the creative process & time is needed to get ideas flowing. You can’t wait until you feel creative… if it’s a priority, you have to make time to mess around creatively.
Your surroundings matter:
music cranked (check out my favorite songs right now on my Instagram)
drink more citrus water
3. give yourself grace
We all need a little more grace, especially when it comes to giving it to ourselves.
Mediate 5 minutes
Put something on your calendar that you can look forward to. Right now these are all things you would find me looking forward to if I saw them jotted down on my calendar: lunch dates, prenatal massages, going to a coffee shop by myself with a good book,
4. NO MATTER HOW YOU FEEL… GET UP, DRESS UP, SHOW UP, & NEVER GIVE UP
Working from home can be a real struggle– get up and get ready (even if you aren’t leaving the house). If you have a plan to workout… do it early & shower. It will change the course of your day. This doesn’t mean you have to get full on ready, just change out of your PJ’s. I know staying in them is tempting, & on occasion it’s completely ok, but on a day to day basis– showering & getting ready, will make you feel A MILLION TIMES better, & actually help you get more accomplished. (p.s. I am speaking directly to myself right now)!!! CHANGE OUT OF YOUR PJ’S BROOKLYN!
5. BUY THE BOOK “BIG MAGIC”
I have heard nothing but amazing things about this book. I have not read it yet, BUT I just ordered it on Amazon & would love to read through it with some of you creatives. Buy it HERE & let’s start a book club… what do you say?
