I know that these videos may seem cheesy & I am sure you are all wondering… “will they get me where I want to be physically”. But let me tell you, they will kick your butt. Just like anything else, you will get what you put into them.

I am a firm believer that you do not have to spend countless hours to be at the top of your fitness game. Working out should be fun! Whether you use a video for a motivational pre-workout warmup or you use them for your full workout…. they will boost your heart rate & get you excited. If you decide you want to do a complete workout… I recommend choosing 2 videos, & doing them each 2 times through, for a total of 4 times. Or choosing 4-5 videos for a jazzercise-like workout.

Take the time to scan through the video before you do it. You may need to modify some of the moves. Go at your own pace… be patient with yourself & you will see yourself get stronger the more you do them. Take breaks when you need them by doing butt-kicks, jumping jacks, a plank, or by jogging in place.

As I continue to make more workout videos for you guys, I am taking note of things I can improve.

  • Before each future video I am going to quickly run through the moves so you don’t have to waste time scanning through the video.
  • I am also going to add a buzzer each time the move changes, so you don’t have to worry about looking at the video to see when we move on. Instead you’ll be able to focus on the exercise & target the muscles you are working out without worrying about things you shouldn’t be worrying about.

In the meantime, try these & I would love more input on how I can make them better! Also, I am taking song recommendations. If you want to workout to your favorite song… let me know what it is!!!

A Workout That Works During The Holidays

As soon as the New Year hits, we all go on a massive workout kick. Am I right??? We work super hard for that perfect summer body & for the sunny days we spend in bathing suits; but as soon as summer is over we become less motivated, more lazy, & more accepting of not working out AT ALL. Big fur jackets & layers help hide the pounds that we start packing on & before we know it, we are back where we started from.

The gyms become less busy, the cookies & pies make there way into our stomachs & onto our hips, & working out becomes a forethought! RIGHTFULLY SO. I get it… it’s the holidays & it’s a time to enjoy. But let’s be honest… when we workout we feel better about everything. Shouldn’t we want to feel good on the inside, ESPECIALLY during the holidays? It’s not just about the way we look, it’s about being healthy in our minds & souls. Heck, I don’t care if you are big or small, your body is beautiful (I love the fact that we are all built beautifully different). This is about feeling good on the inside. When we feel good on the inside, it will reflect it on the outside.

Here is how YOU are going to make working out a priority even during the holidays:

  1. Make your workouts realistic
  2. Make a game plan & stick to it.
  3. Set yourself up for success.
  4. Use the cold weather to your advantage.

During the holidays, it seems like there is never enough time & the excuses start flooding your mind. For me, I know I am not going to be doing Insanity workouts right now, that is just so unrealistic FOR ME (been there, done that, & I can tell you I WILL NOT be doing this during the holidays). With its hour long workouts, 6 days a week, NOPE… just not going to happen. I will never stick to this workout plan!

This is about staying on track through the busyness this season brings. So… ready for a little secret??? Here is a list of my favorite workout videos. SERIOUSLY… these are going to be your saving grace. My goal is always 20 minutes, but a 10 minute cardio workout will totally do the trick. You will break a sweat, get your heart rate up, & feel so good after. TOTALLY DO-ABLE.

5 Minute Arm Sculpting Workout

5 Minute Leg Workout

Click HERE to browse through all their workout videos. I love this website because:

  • It’s practical. Mix & match the workouts to create a workout that best fits your schedule. Whether its 5 minutes, 15 minutes, or 30 minutes… you’ll get a good workout!
  • It’s fun. There are so many videos to choose from… & you won’t get bored doing the same workouts day in and day out.
  • It’s something you can share. Anyone can access these videos FOR FREE. When you find something you love, its always fun to share it with your closest friends.

Switch up the videos. Get a new yoga mat or a new set of workout clothes. Pour a big glass of infused water. Snap a picture. Make it fun… from start to finish.

If you are looking for a workout a little more intense, but not ridiculously time consuming, do Kayla Itsines. Her workouts are 30 minutes, 3 days a week! A little more regimented, but still totally realistic (or Way of Gray).

2. MAKE A GAME PLAN & stick to it

This is important but there is more to it… make a game plan & stick to it, BUT don’t stick to it at any of your holiday parties. This is not just a suggestion!!! You have to enjoy yourself during the holidays & allow yourself to splurge. Adopt this motto “calories don’t count at holiday parties”.

Cheat days are GOOD! Sometimes our bodies can get used to our eating plans & exercise routines, so when we allow ourselves a cheat it not only helps with cravings, but it throws our body for a loop. It makes it so our bodies don’t get familiar to the usual routine we follow.

Ask if there is anything you can bring to your next holiday party… this will allow you to make a healthy option of your favorite dessert. Substitute the bad ingredients for better ones… check out this website for healthy recipe substitutions. I bet there will be other guests who will appreciate the healthier options. I can’t have gluten, because I am allergic to wheat, so I would be stocked if there was a dessert for me to splurge on!

Since it’s cooler outside, you can get away with doing your workouts outdoors or going on a run.

Try constantly sipping on hot tea to curb cravings or your desire to snack. I use 100% Pure Organic Stevia Extract to sweeten my teas (available at Trader Joes for $10). Or even opt out of your usual Starbucks Christmas Coffee & get a hot Refresh Tea. You still get the red cup, the warmth, & the tastiness, but it will fuel your body with energy.

Shout out

…to all my fellow Type 1 Diabetics out there. Lately, I have been feeling the most alone in this aspect of my life & I just wanted to offer some encouragement to others of you who may be feeling this way. At times we may feel alone, like no one understands just what we are going through, but we are not alone. We will never be able to perfectly control our diabetes, but we can be healthy. Sometimes we need to cut ourselves a break & remind ourselves that we are trying our best & that is all that matters.

“Mint To Be” : Fresh & Fun Ways To Use Mint Everyday!

We have mint growing in our yard & I love-love-love walking outside to pick leaves to put in my water and tea. I probably drink 10x’s more water when I use mint so it’s a total win-win!

You can seriously use mint for so many things…

  • Invigorating Minty Water – Add mint & cucumber to cold water
  • Hot n’ Minty Tea – Add mint to hot peppermint tea or hot water
  • Sweet Minty Fruits – Dice and mix with fruit salads
  • Yummy Minty Breath – Chew on a couple of leaves to freshen your breath without all that nasty shit found in chewing gum
  • Minty-holic Drinks – Put it in your next cocktail

It’s so refreshing!!!

Peppermint oil works in the same way…

Trust me when I say, you NEED this oil in your life. This website is a great tool for learning the basics of each oil, but regardless of where you buy your oils from, just make sure you are buying 100% pure essential oil.

I am no expert, but I love using oils and just want to share what I DO know.

I’ve been getting the WORST sinus headaches… so bad that most mornings I pop a couple Tylenol sinus pills (which is so unlike me, because I am not a fan of popping pills to mask pain).

This morning was different… as soon as I woke up and felt one coming on, I rubbed peppermint oil on my temples, on the back of my neck and also put a drop under my tongue.

Be prepared for a kick in the butt! It’s strong and may make your throat sting a bit…BUT it’s totally worth it and cleared my sinus INSTANTLY.

The trick is noticing your symptoms early on & treating them before they get so bad that you don’t care what you use to get rid of the pain.

You can also use peppermint oil to…

  • Keep energy levels up by rubbing this oil on the back of your neck
  • Put a few drops at the bottom or your trash bags for a nice, fresh, minty smell
  • Use it to clean : mix 1/2 cup white vinegar / 32 oz. (1 quart) cups water / 1/4 tsp. to 1/2 tsp. peppermint essential oil
  • Apply to stomach (or drink with water) to relieve bloating, gas, indigestion, nausea, & constipation

Minty Body Scrub Recipe

  • Mix 2 1/2 cups sugar (white or brown)
  • 1 cup of a carrier oil (I use fractionated liquid coconut oil but you can also use sweet almond oil or even olive oil)
  • 25-30 drops of peppermint oil

Minty Mouthwash Recipe

Step by step directions for an all natural peppermint mouthwash can be found here.

These are just a few of the ways I have used peppermint oil, but the list of things you can use it for is endless. It really goes on and on and on and on and on.

What are some of the ways you use your oils, specifically peppermint? Let me know on Twitter or Instagram!
